Welcome to The Letter, gang.
I’ve been toying with the idea of jotting my thoughts down on a weekly basis, and I’ve finally made good on that promise.
Why bother?
I like good habits and writing is a powerful one. It’s medicine for the brain.
I’m a big believer in writing things down, firstly as it keeps me accountable and secondly for brain dumping; it’s quite refreshing.
I wish more of us would take up this super powerful habit.
Even now - after my 20-year marathon in entrepreneurship (winning most of the time but sometimes just getting by) - whenever I’m perplexed by a challenge or stressed with life, my trusty notebook becomes my best friend.
I hope my musings into my entrepreneurial endeavours will give you a cuddle from time to time.
You see, the gig of “business owner” is a tough one and a god damn lonely one. You never know, Captain, my weekly notes may lift you up - as I share brutal truths and highs & lows.
Before I say “toodaloo pip”, I’d like to leave you with this.
“Is it Worth It?”
I was asked recently “is it worth it?” …I would usually answer “yes“ straight away. But this was different.
After a tough few weeks on the business owner rollercoaster, I paused before I answered. Another “yes”.
Here’s why.
I feel that entrepreneurial success is a pounding on your brain. Every day.
You have so many things to juggle, and to keep on top of. It’s just not for everyone.
There is one thing I really think makes success such a worthy cause, and that’s the journey there.
Who you become along the way is the real winner winner chicken dinner!
If you’re at X and you want to get to Y - super success, in your opinion - imagine who’ll you become because of that journey.
You will become a better YOU.
You will move mountains that no one else can.
You will learn to handle the impossible.
You will become responsible and worthy.
You’ll be the type of person who gets branded “dependable” and you’ll have ability to help people.
Most people shy away from responsibility and hard work these days.
They’re looking for short cuts that dampen resilience. Resilience is, of course, one of the Eight Traits of the Greats.
So the question again: is success worth it?
Yes. Not because of future trappings and material gains - it’s because of who you’ll become on the way.
That, my friends, is flipping fantastic.
To your continued success,
I have a rule, which I am about to break: “never do religion or politics.”
For me to work, and for my companies to work, I need fellow entrepreneurs around to make the economy tick.
Take the energy away from an economy and it’s curtains. We become a nice place to go for a city break.
Here’s my plea ahead of Budget day…
